CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Pine Manor College Women's Volleyball picked up its second win of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking a 3-2 home victory over visiting Me. – Presque Isle at Brunelli Court. The win helps the Gators improve to 2-17 on the season, while the Owls drop to 0-12 overall.
The game was a back and forth battle that Pine Manor was able to take control of late-- winning the final two sets thanks in part to freshman Susan Le (Lowell, MA) who recorded a game-high 17 kills in the victory. Junior Destiny Mann (Orlando, FL) also finished with eight kills for the Gators while also recording a match-high 12 service aces.
Presque Isle took early command of the game thanks to several Pine Manor errors, allowing them to take a comfortable 25-16 victory. However, the Gators bounced back in the second set as Mann took command for the service line and help Pine Manor cruise to a 25-12 set victory.
The third set was the closest of the afternoon, but again Presque Isle was able to race out to the early lead, once again taking advantage of several PMC errors while also get several kills this from sophomore Shannon Brown, who finished with a team high five. Freshman Abby Jewett and senior Randy Kaplan each also finished with four kills for Owls.
With the Owls up two games to one, Le helped the Gators take control of the match for good, putting down several emphatic kills on assists form classmate Alexis Bushika (Adams, MA) to help the lead the Gators to a 25-18 fourth set victory. Bushika finished with 22 assists for the Gators.
In the final set, Mann and Le combined to put away the Owls as the Gators took the 15-8 set victory and the 3-2 match victory.
The Owls will be back in action tomorrow when they take on in-state rival Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The Gators will close out their season next Saturday in Buzzards Bay, MA when they take on Westfield State and host Mass. Maritime in a tri-match beginning at 4:30 PM.
